The Salinity Lab Web Site began with an email ...
- 1995 June 28 : Received an email from Scott R. Yates, defacto supervisor, to do a webpage for the "pesticide" group.
- 1996 : Wrote HTML 3.0 code by hand, and initially produced an internal "Intranet" web site for the Salinity Lab during 1995.
Funding for a Web Server and T-1 connectivity became available and in 1996, the internal site was converted to today's Internet site (http://ussl.ars.usda.gov).
- 1998 : $1000 ARS "Merit" Award Received for developing the Salinity Lab website which contained and provided web access to:
- 1999 : ARS "Website of the Year" Award - Pacific West Area
Web site acclaimed one of ARS's best by users and top administrators in ARS and other agencies, as popular and successfully conveying the U. S. Salinity Laboratory's mission and accomplishments to its customers and the public.
The two personnel responsible for the success of the web site were William Alves, Network administrator, and Mark Cliath, PhD, Webmaster.
- 2002 : Retired from ARS, in January, leaving behind One INTERnet and Three INTRAnet salinity lab web sites.
